Posted in Random Thoughts, Words with tags long line, patience, shopping, theory on January 21, 2011 by BassNinjaDGrizzlyEver notice that when you’re waiting in a long line, all of the other lines seem to move way faster than yours? Old ladies lumbering by with overflowing shopping carts are suddenly paid, bagged, and on their way out of the store before the kid at the top of your queue finishes fishing around in his pocket for a quarter to pay for his pack of gum. BUT, the second you switch to that new line, the register breaks down and the line you were just in seconds ago starts handing out free puppies and priceless jewels. It’s not a case of The Grass is Always Greener.. Ok, maybe it’s a subset. Its The Long Line Theory. And I think I need to take a lesson in patience.

Posted in Lyrics, Words with tags edge of the world on January 10, 2011 by BassNinjaDGrizzlyI’m standing on the edge of the world
I’m standing on the edge of the world
Birds fall from the sky every day
Fish wash up on the shore of the bay
But not like today cause
Its all catching up with me
Its all catching up with me
I’m standin on the edge of the world
I’m standin on the edge of the world
Let the sun come and warm my skin
Let the ash come and lock me in
Where to begin oh
Its all catching up to me
Its all catching up to me
It doesn’t matter what you believe
I’m standin on the edge of the world
I’m standin on the edge of the world
I was never one to believe in sin
If evil’s punished then does anyone win?
Turn the other cheek and walk away
But is that possible in our world today?
Don’t even try to pray cause
It’s all catching up to me
It’s all catching up to me
It doesn’t matter what you believe
I’m standin on the edge of the world
I’m standin on the edge of the world
Birds fall from the sky every day
Fish wash up on the shore of the bay
What can we say but
Its all catching up to me

Holiday Blizzard Gumbo
Posted in Food, Original Food with tags blizzard, gumbo, recipe on December 27, 2010 by BassNinjaDGrizzlyFirst time making gumbo. Can’t wait to do it again! It came out so damn good. You can really throw in whatever you want within reason
I started by making a rue in my pot with some oil, butter, and flour
At the same time I caramelized some onions and garlic in a saute pan
At the same time get some water boiling for rice in another pot (barley is really good too)
I then whisked chicken and beef broth in to combine with the rue to create the thick soup base. Add tomato pure, carrots, celery, chillies, the onions and garlic. Add thyme, bay leaves, salt, pepper, oregano, old bay.
Add long grain rice to boiling water. Add lid, simmer for about 40 minutes
Sear some chicken breasts in olive oil with cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Slice into bite sized pieces, toss in soup
Sear shrimp in same pan with some old bay and olive oil. Toss in pot
Sear some andouille sausage or kielbasa. Slice in chunks, toss in pot
Toss mushrooms in pan, deglaze with dark beer. Add to pot
Medium-high til meats are cooked through
You can either add the rice while its still a little hard or cook it how you like it and ladle the gumbo over top
Takes about an hour all together. Well worth it
Climbing Wall in Tokyo Fitness Club

This indoor climbing wall is in the Illoiha Omotesando fitness club in Tokyo. Designer Nendo “developed a design that uses the mismatch between a rugged outdoor sport and Tokyo’s fashion district to its advantage.” He hopes that his “uniquely Omotesando-style climbing wall inspires newcomers to try out the sport, and starts a new wave in fitness with style.”
I’m a big fan of indoor climbing walls in general. After watching the movie Richie Riche as a kid, I liked to imagine how I would create my own dream mansion. I wanted to position a climbing wall near a balcony (similar to Nendo’s design) so you would have a choice to either use the stairs or take to the wall. Climbing is a great exercise and a lot of fun.

Guitar Toolkit App

Best app I’ve bought. Tuner, scales, metronome, chord library, etc. A little pricy at $10 for an app, but to be honest, I’d probably pay $10 just for the tuner because it’s that accurate. Way better than the Gibson app, but of course that ones free :p
